Dear YMCA Friends,

Here at the Y, we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone in our community has what they need to thrive. Throughout 2022, with the help of hard-working volunteers, invaluable partner organizations, and generous donors, the YMCA of Silicon Valley supported and significantly impacted our community. We have provided resources for better health, closed the opportunity gap for working families and their kids, provided unforgettable experiences at YMCA Camp Campbell, and built a generation of Upstanders throughout Silicon Valley.

We take pride in the work we do together and the transformations we witness every day at the Y. We invite you to read more about what we accomplished together in our 2022 Community Impact Report which you can find below.

Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our commitment to strengthening our community through promoting healthy living, fostering youth development, and advancing social responsibility. We recognize that to have this deep, enduring impact is possible only when we work together.

Thank you for sharing in our vision and joining us in our work to build a strong, healthy, vibrant Silicon Valley community.

Enduring Impact

Our Y has been strengthening the Silicon Valley community for 156 years and counting. In 2022, we built on our legacy through partnerships that made us stronger together. We are especially proud of how together, with the help of our partners, stakeholders and volunteers, we improved the health of our members; engaged and empowered our youth; and nourished our neighbors.

Strengthening Our Community

Our Y emerged from the pandemic with a strengthened resolve to respond and adapt to the emerging needs of our Silicon Valley community. Our reach and impact is extended by leveraging deep partnerships with other community organizations.

Nourishing Families

Many families living in Silicon Valley rely on free or low-cost school meal programs. One in four kids are food insecure or may not know where their next meal is coming from in Santa Clara County. A school break can mean going hungry. Our Y is a USDA food program sponsor, distributing meals and snacks to youth and their families at after school and summer sites, Y branches and community partner locations. In our efforts to combat hunger and social isolation, we are proud to include food distribution and meals served to older adults and vulnerable seniors.

Supporting Learning

Too many students in our community face an achievement gap that keeps them from succeeding in school, especially those children from under-resourced households. Our Y’s academic enrichment programs provide a safe place for all children to reach their fullest potential, promote learning recovery, and provide a space to connect and engage with their peers.

Reaching Our Youth

As families, schools, and communities continued to rebuild from the pandemic, YMCA Project Cornerstone expanded its workshop offerings for parents by adding several timely topics and continued to deliver important prek-8th grade lessons and resources (both in-person and virtually) that focused on cultivating the development of youth’s social and emotional skills and behaviors.

Growing with the Community

Our Y significantly broadened its offerings in 2022, expanding programs, services, and resources to deliver impactful member wellness, youth enrichment, and community development. Our commitment to fostering achievement, relationships, and a sense of belonging in a welcoming environment remains unwavering.

Gaining Skills and Confidence

4-year-old Maritza’s parents enrolled her in YMCA swim lessons because they themselves had never learned to swim. Facing a fear of water and the additional challenge of a language barrier, Maritza ended up repeating her introduction to swimming stages. Maritza’s swim instructor encouraged her to overcome her fears and helped to make the swim drill playful and fun. Maritza’s parents were so encouraged by her growth in swimming abilities and her increased confidence, that they are now considering enrolling themselves in swim lessons.

MARITZA’S STORY
